Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Manual Lymphatic drainage massage is an extremely light massage that works solely on the lymph system, and does not penetrate to the depth of muscle tissue. It focuses on assisting the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins and other waste products from the body, by using light movements to encourage lymphatic flow.
The elimination of toxins improves the overall function and condition of the body, boosts the immune system, and helps to remove excess fluid, reducing areas of puffiness and swelling caused by water retention.
This massage is also used after liposuction surgery, with the purpose to eliminate liquid that tends to accumulate and harden forming fibrosis (hard balls or lumps). Can be very helpful in alleviating swelling after the liposuction as it can improve the lymphatic circulation.
Many surgeons recommend this massage 2 weeks after the surgery as this is when fibrosis starts to form.
Manual Lymphatic drainage is a therapy recommended for lymphoedema after cancer treatments. Is a way of reducing the swelling cause by fluid build up, by moving the fluid from the swollen area into a place where the lymphatic system is working normally.
